Additionally, he co-founded 'Healthy Kids Healthy Future,' ensuring health, dental, and vision coverage for over 65,000 children in the Sacramento region.In partnership with the Sacramento City Unified School District, he collaborated with school nurses and teachers to assist children with special needs, ensuring they could learn in school.Dr. Pan led a local coalition to establish Federally Qualified Health Centers in Sacramento and established a pediatric clinic in Oak Park as one of the first sites. But as the Great Recession hit, the prospect of significant budget cuts loomed over the programs he built with the community.He knew he had to do something to protect Sacramento communities.&nbsp;<h2>Winning Tough Fights</h2><h4>Dr. Pan doesn’t back down from the fights worth winning.</h4>Against the tremendous odds of unseating a deeply entrenched political operative with a million-dollar campaign, Dr. Pan organized a coalition of community members, small businesses, unions, and health professionals, winning his election to the State Assembly in 2010. As a legislator, he worked to restore confidence in California at a time when critics deemed the state “ungovernable” by stabilizing the budget and building reserves to prevent further budget cuts that endangered the health and safety of Sacramento families.One of his first actions in the Legislature was to keep the City of Sacramento’s fire stations open after the city’s budget deficit threatened to shutter several public safety services. Collaborating with firefighters and then Vice Mayor Ashby, Dr. Pan helped secure $90 million in new federal funding for emergency responders, with $2 million allocated specifically for Sacramento neighborhoods.

A vibrant city means our residents need to feel secure in their place here – with a place to live, food on the table, and a good job.There is so much talk about new programs and new housing sites, yet we also hear of sites ready to go that aren’t moving for various reasons. This is unacceptable.By improving permitting processes, we can ensure the city is efficient and effective at following through with the sites that will provide necessary services to our unhoused community members.But it is not just on the city. The city and the county need to work together on shared services to support the unhoused population. The recent collaboration with health plans in the county to use the opportunity for state dollars is an example of the public-private partnerships we need to support.

Addressing the Homelessness Crisis

A city can’t be healthy without a strong economy. My plans for economic growth are founded on building the economy to strengthen the community in every corner of our city.Sacramento is missing too many opportunities to grow its economy due to the dysfunction caused when the City Council sends mixed or unrealistic messages.It's vital to the health of our communities that we ensure earning opportunities for working families in every neighborhood. We should be doing everything we can to create good jobs with quality benefits and pathways to middle-class careers.The people of Sacramento are the city's greatest assets. We need to promote opportunities that help individuals prosper, along with our economy on a larger scale.I have the experience necessary to ensure our economy thrives. Previously, I partnered with the mayor and vice mayor to bring forward a plan that allowed us to keep the Kings in Sacramento.I also helped my community of Natomas by working to attract a Fortune 500 company to build their new Western headquarters in Sacramento.As mayor, I want to make an impact on whether a business chooses to come or stay in the city by using my own voice to work with partners and create the right environment.

I want Sacramento to be a city where people want to live, work, and play. We want to foster an environment where our children can achieve their dreams and grow and build roots to raise their own families.I believe in the people of Sacramento and want to help them create neighborhoods and communities in which they have confidence and take pride.Our goal is to support, not hinder, community members. It is crucial that we support our community members and motivate them to actively participate in finding quality solutions for each neighborhood's unique issues.Moreover, we must restore confidence in our city with transparent and direct guidance on public safety policies and initiatives.Our city needs greater focus on accountability, oversight and getting things working—and less on announcements of new programs that go unfulfilled. We also need to ensure we fulfill our responsibility to provide the services and public safety that families expect from their city government.Sacramento has an incredibly low ratio of officers to citizens due to high vacancy rates that are not being addressed. I am committed to working with the City Manager and Chief of Police to find solutions that ensure law enforcement feels supported in their jobs.I believe the number one thing that helps our community feel safe and livable is general maintenance: picking up trash, fixing broken lights, cleaning up graffiti. These aren’t lofty goals, but they are vital to ensure our community thrives.

We want to foster an environment where our children can achieve their dreams, and where they want to grow and build roots to raise a family of their own.

Pan Holds an 8 Point Lead Over Closest CompetitorSACRAMENTO, CA – Today Dr. Richard Pan’s campaign released a poll showing him with an 8 point lead in the race for Mayor of Sacramento.The citywide poll of likely March 2024 primary voters was conducted by nationally recognized polling firm Tulchin Research between November 6th and 9th, 2023.Currently, Pan leads the race with support from nearly a quarter of likely voters (24%) with a lead well outside of the survey’s statistical margin of error. The Sacramento State campus is the closest four-year institution for many Sacramento youth and educates the workforce that is the foundation of Sacramento’s economy. College affordability is already an obstacle for many Sacramento families, and more than half of Sacramento State students rely on financial aid. Sacramento State has made significant progress in increasing the four-year graduation rate, which reduces the total cost of earning a Sacramento State degree.
